Description

Continuing my strive to do everything (In art terms of course...) I present my foray into the world of sculpture. Granted it's not a twelve ton lump of marble, but it is a sculpture none the less.

The actual model is made of Fimo (Think brightly coloured man-made clay with oven friendly firing temperatures) and was created over the course of three days (I did some work on three days, it didn't take three days) being constructed in a way not unlike how I draw. First I started with a stick figure base, which I bent into the pose I wanted and then I build up the model from there, firing each 'layer' of detail as I go. The painting was done in a few hours after the final firing (I used acrylic paint as it tends to stick better). Nice thing about Fimo is even after firing it remains slightly rubber like so unlike clay it doesn't shatter so easily, a fact that saved the model on more than one occasion.

The figure would stand 12cm (about 5 inches) tall, if it weren't sat down, and was created without any planning or practise; I think it's the first sculpture work I've done in Fimo (or anything other than plasticine) for about 5 years. I'd guess it took about 6 hours start to finish (excluding things like firing and cooling). The model actually looks slightly nicer in real life (honest) but the photo's are the best I could do...

Hope you like!
